The many benefits of self-employment with purpose
Queensland University study (De Klerk, 2022) found difficulties in transition were overcome by veterans combining their “existing technical, teamwork, personal, and management skills with new learning in marketing, sales and accounting”.
The benefits of self-employment are extending to mental health: autonomy, flexibility to manage their own wellbeing, and achieve that sense of satisfaction.
Further education and training is directly connected to lower depression (11.3%) and anxiety (9.8%). Finding meaningful employment will eliminate negative social impacts, enable financial security, and provide mental health resilience for the veterans, their family, and the wider community (Kondirolli and Sunder, 2022).
